Our "Barefoot Bowls" was another successful day and a very enjoyable afternoon, even if it was a bit warm.
For a change we played on the artificial grass "plastic" green. It is quite a bit faster than the grass greens so it was easier to bowl but, I think, a little more difficult to get the bowl to finish on the jack (ie, the little white one down the other end).
We split ourselves into two teams and created some competition. We had a couple of new players who eventually got the hang of it and put down some very good bowls. I think they surprised themselves. We cut short the bowling time a little because of the heat and then went inside the club for a well-earned couple of cool drinks.
The Probus "Barefoot Bowls" is at the Baulkham Hills Bowling club at 2.00 pm for a 2.30 pm start for a couple of hours. We arrive at about 2.00 pm to prepare to start. The Bowls club supplies bowls if you don't have your own, and the cost is just $15.
Our next "Barefoot Bowls" day is the fourth Thursday of the month, on Thursday, 28th March (because "Life of Riley" Probus tour is on the week before).
Everyone is very welcome to come. Just wear a hat and some flat soled sneakers and enjoy yourselves. We look forward to seeing you there. Gary Christoffel
===================================== On a beautiful, balmy afternoon of 20-22 degrees in the sunshine, eight of us played bowls at the Baulkham Hills Bowls Club. on the grass green, with bowls supplied by the club.
We played with 4 teams of 2 players, making up two games of pairs. Chester, Bob H and Bob R and myself played as the skips.
Special mention must be made of how well all played after some not so good bowls in the past. That small side of the bowl must go on the inside for the bias to work on the bowl correctly, and make the bowls go near that "little white one'' down the other end of the green. As we say there are only two things to get correct when you throw a bowl - your weight and grass.
Everybody enjoyed a great day with good competition between teams. All members are very welcome to come along to the bowls which we hold each month. On the Thursday afternoon the week after our Probus meeting. Our starting time is to get there about 2 pm for a 2.30 pm start. Just wear some flat soled footwear (or joggers) so we can bowl on the grass green. We enjoyed a few social drinks in the club afterwards and three couples even stayed for dinner at the club.
We had "seniors' meals" : chicken schnitzel, chips and salad; and a roast and veg. for just $13.50 each. Recommended for a meal out. All are very welcome . and a great day was had by all.
